David and I have had lots of fun finishing up the fall, but especially over the winter break. We had a STAYcation for the first time ever and it was wonderful.
Recently, we had a few short trips, but no epic adventures.
We had a pretty good sports year other than the Cowboys with Texas Rangers in the World's Series and TCU winning the Rose Bowl for an overall #2 in the country!!!! Yes, I have gotten into sports again.
David had a great acoustic gig with the House Band at the Looking Glass and I am looking forward to hearing them play there more often. It was packed.
27 hasn't played since the Soybean, but the 27 Trio is getting together next week so we are keeping the new tunes going.
A professional paragraph for me if you will....just so I don't forget where the time has gone over the past 4 weeks: I have gotten caught up on some pretty large projects over the break. My tenure application is in along with the Cunningham award application - keeping my fingers crossed there. I have spent a lot of time dedicated to the Caixa Trio. We have a new look with new posters and promotional dvd's and more. It's been lots of work, but I have enjoyed learning the new technology. I have prepared my Muriel Tomlinson lecture on "The Black Music of Brazil: Music and Social Transformation for Women and Children in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil". I had my first PAS Executive Committee Summit in Indy this past week. Feels good to serve there since I have been a member of PAS since 1989. Other projects have included composing and solidifying requirements and judges sheets for all three regions of TN with regards to percussion. This is a slow process, but one round is complete and I was proud that West TN trusted me enough to volunteer as the first guinea pigs in the state. It went well and I hope will spread to the other regions of the state and really have some impact for percussion education in TN. I also have devised a frame drum curriculum for my students and lots more stuff with my kiddos at school. Oh, I managed to lose links to photos I had been posting for every single event at UTM over the past 6 years. I was proud that I didn't even cry. After all, it's just time. David is always after me for spending too much time on that stuff anyway so this was an opportunity to make a change. I won't be worrying about keeping up with that in the future. Damn Iphoto and Flickr.
Did I mention we got another cat to play with our cat?
We now have Emmerline Coffey Hill (she is named after my great great grandmother on my mom's side..)
Emmi and Agi have become great friends already and David and I delight with watching them.
2 is our limit. I promise!
Here are some pics below from this fall and winter break. They are in no particular order.
