Dear Friends and Family,
Next week will be our first anniversary. It is so interesting to think about what we were doing this time last year! We were so busy making preparations for the wedding, checking the extended weather forecast, and eagerly anticipating the arrival of loved ones in Union City.
David and I have such a wonderful time together. It's mind boggling to think about what has happened since May 17th, 2008.
We just finished up with another year at UT Martin. There were so many events and concerts (too many of course) with tours to Mexico and Texas thrown in there somewhere. This is mostly my doing, as usual, with a flock of guest artists and performances. David knows more famous percussionists than any historian ever I am sure! He is always such a gracious host. David has had a fantastic year as well, always with high marks as Professor, Department Chair, and Dean. He also had one of his best classes ever and gave a brilliant talk on the Confederate Flag. I was so proud of him.
We had my students over for a celebration cookout and then David's history graduates over as well. It was great fun and so rejuvenating to be around great young people that we love and respect.
David's Band is playing more and more and they sound awesome. David is encouraging them to learn some Levon Helm tunes. I gig frequently with the Jamaica Me Happy steel pan group and still with the Caixa Trio. 27BStroke6 is getting back together on June 6 and will try and write some new tunes.
I'll be moving out of the music building for two years while they build us a new one. It's been rather traumatic, but I think the worst is over. I have 22 percussion majors this fall which is some kind of a record. Things are going so well and we are both so happy here.
David is screening in our carport so that we can spend more time outside. We'll be taking a short trip out to Napa for our anniversary and then will spend the summer at home. Both of us are teaching Governor's school so we'll be in town.
Well, that's the updates for now. Would love to hear from you all. Come visit us!
Love to everyone.
Julie (and David)
